Description

PORTA PORTESE - Flea Market

Porta Portese is the Sunday market of Rome. With more than 1000 stalls selling anything possible, it is the most popular Flea Market in Italy and one of the largest in Europe.

Born after the war as new home to Campo de' Fiori black market, Porta Portese has been shot in many movies (Ladri di Biciclette by Vittorio De Sica above all) and featured in many songs and poems as a major symbol of modern Rome street culture.

Therefore taking a stroll through this market it is a  truly enriching experience, not just a fun way to buy nice second hand clothes, leather jackets, vintage sunglasses, antique furniture, vynils, books, prints...and much, much more!

Just some useful tips: 1. Always watch your belongings, as there may be pickpockets! 2. Avoid playing the three cards game (believe us: you will lose your money 100%); 3. Never give up bargaining with the vendors to get a better deal;

  • ADDRESS: Piazza di Porta Portese (Trastevere/Portuense district);

  • OPENING HOURS: SUNDAY MORNING, 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM (some stalls close at 5:00 PM). Dates & times are subject to change. Always double-check beforehand!

MERCATO MONTI - Urban Market

Mercato Monti is a one-of-a-kind market in Rome, and a modern temple for young designers, fashion artists and vintage addicted!

Born in 2009 and settled in the heart of the hip Monti district, the market has grown really fast over the years, and it is nowadays one of the most popular in Rome.

It is not a traditional flea market, but rather a urban laboratory for creative people and fashion innovators. You can find artisan clothing, handmade jewels, vintage items, artistic home accessories, and much more! Definitely worth a visit during your weekend sightseeing of ancient Rome (Colosseum and Roman Forum are 10 min. walk away!).

BORGHETTO FLAMINIO - Flea Market

Borghetto Flaminio Flea Market was created in 1994 by Enrico e Paolo, two  local friends who introduced Rome to the American concept of garage sales for amateurs.

Since then the little market has been housed in a nice courtyard, 2 min. walk from Piazza del Popolo. It takes place every Sunday and features vintage items, used accessories, clothes, and anything the local vendors want to get rid of after a move or a home renovation!

  • ADDRESS: Piazza della Marina 32 (Piazza del Popolo area);

  • OPENING HOURS: EVERY SUNDAY, 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Dates & times are subject to change. Always double-check beforehand!

FONTANELLA BORGHESE - Antiques Market

Fontanella Borghese Market is a must visit for art and literature lovers looking for ancient items and bargain books.

The market is permanent and takes place in the elegant Piazza della Fontanella Borghese, in the shadow of one of the most precious palaces in Rome (Palazzo Borghese), just 10 min. walk from the Spanish Steps. Every day (except for Sundays) local sellers set up their little kiosks with fascinating collections of antique prints and maps, vintage posters, postcards, and much more.

Definitely worth a visit  to pick up unique gifts, far from the tourist crowds.
